Abstract

At the present work, limpet (Patella vulgata L.) and seaweed (Ulva lactuca) specimens have been monthly sampled at the same point from the Vigo estuary, during a year. Heavy metal (cadmium and lead) content has been determined by means of differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry in both limpet and seaweed tissues, as well as in seawater. The obtained results have shown the main heavy metal content in limpet soft tissues with respect to shell, with maximum concentrations of 3 ppm (limpet shell) for lead, whereas the highest content for cadmium was identified in seaweed samples (1.1 ppm). The statistical study revealed the existence of a clear correlation between cadmium and lead concentrations in seaweed samples.
