Abstract
The planetary health approach updates our vision of the relationship between the environment and health, within the context of global environmental and climate crisis. It is based on the analysis of the planetary boundaries and the consequences of their transgression. In this article, we analyze the situation of these boundaries and their consequences in the Latin American and Caribbean region. We present a reconceptualization of the planetary health, based on a critique of aspects such as environmental justice and North/South inequalities. We present the situation of the planetary boundaries in different countries in the region. Finally, we propose an approach based on local syndemic scenarios as well as successful programs and policies to respond to the great challenges of the environmental and climate crisis in the region.
